Subtle yet discernable differences in geography, climate, elevation, soils, proximity to rivers and creeks, plants and animals provide a wide palette of inspiring material from which to craft a sense of place within the larger University of Nebraska ecosystem. From the largest multimillion dollar capital plan to the temporary location of a dumpster for a small construction renovation, the placement is evaluated carefully by our project team leadership. This line of thinking on culture energy and diversity, and on delivering concepts and vision is further experimented through small scale interventions, as Yujia continues to curate and design exhibitions at various venues of art.Great landscape planning ties directly back to guidance contained in each campus master plan and is integral to every project delivery team, no matter the size or scope. Yujia is strongly interested in embracing the risks and opportunities of design tied in culture background, climate, population, technical capacities, cost and revenue, local regulations etc. The body of work has been carried out both in the United States and in international context. The definition allows him to experiment with the effectiveness of different project types, to work with each the unique sets of drivers, constraints and potentials, and to examine the meaning of public space at different scales and for different clients / missions. He is committed to a continued involvement with practice that focus on creating and iterating the place of gathering, and of delivering the vision through grounded operations. The other line of research he has taken an interest into is in evaluation of landscape projects' performance, as a way to inform design process and as it fit in financial models. His past research, the Urban Underspace Project, investigates un-used under bridge spaces and abandoned underground spaces to see how they form a city-wide network that offers new grounds for public use. He looks at this process in relation to existing infrastructure, hydro and ecological corridors, and potential public spaces. One of the topics he has been focusing on is the urban renewal process that involves inserting and/or reinforcing spatial structure, using landscape as a strategic tool. Wang is interested in two parallel lines of research. Wang places emphasizes on both research and practice. "Reinvigorating Urban Under Space: Towards a New Type of Public Landscape." Nakhara: Journal of Environmental Design and Planning 13 (2017): 41-58. ![]() In addition to practice, Wang curates exhibitions and creates exhibits, working with distinctive institutions and venues such as Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Arts and Planning Exhibitions (MoCAPE) and Shenzhen Bi-City Shenzhen Biennale of Urbanism\ Architecture. ![]() Notably, the Qingling Phase I bridge, a 50-meter bridge he and the team completed in 2013, was used as a example of success and was widely covered by national and local media. He has also worked at and led the Chongqing Chapter of Wuzhiqiao, a series of charitable projects focused on enhancing security and access by building bridges for distant and under-served villages in rural parts of China. The work include urban landscape projects such as Chongqing Twin River Waterfront Vision Plan, and built projects like Cantigny Park, Boston WTC Pier, and Jinan MixC Retail District. At Sasaki Associates' Boston office, he worked on a range of domestic and international projects across a multitude of scales. Prior to joining UNL, Wang has practiced in the United States and China. Through this education and research background, he has developed a unique set of lens to observe and operate in the built environment. ![]() His education background is international and interdisciplinary, during which he sought a path that involved landscape architecture as well as regional and urban planning, urban design, architecture, and in addition policy and financial studies. Yujia Wang is an Assistant Professor of Practice in Landscape Architecture at UNL College of Architecture. ![]() The sheer number of nucleotides to be copied is enormous: e.g., in human cells, on the order of several billions.Ĭells, whether bacterial or eukaryotic, have to replicate all of their DNA before they can divide.A generalized account of the steps in DNA replication is presented below, focused on the challenges mentioned above. Although the specific proteins involved are different in bacteria and eukaryotes, it is useful to understand the basic considerations that are relevant in all cells. Numerous proteins involved in replication have been identified and characterized, including multiple different DNA polymerases in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. These investigations have revealed that DNA replication is carried out by the action of a large number of proteins that act together as a complex protein machine. Our understanding of the process of DNA replication is derived from studies using bacteria, yeast, and other systems. With this in mind, we can begin to examine how cells deal with each of these challenges. The copying of all the parental DNA must be accurate, so that mutations are not introduced into the newly made DNA.įigure 7.11 - Replication of DNA - Wikipedia Figure 7.12 - Human chromosomes Figure 7.13 - Bidirectional replication from an origin - Martha Bakerįigure 7.14 - Prokaryotic vs.The use of RNA primers requires that the RNA nucleotides must be removed and replaced with DNA nucleotides and the resulting DNA fragments must be joined. The 5' to 3' growth of both new strands means that one of the strands is made in pieces. DNA polymerases can only extend a strand in the 5' to 3' direction.DNA polymerases cannot begin synthesis of a new DNA strand de novo and require a free 3' OH to which they can add deoxynucleotides..The unwound single strands of DNA must be kept from coming back together long enough for the new strands to be synthesized.. ![]()

![]() Some of the stuff was still rendering for some reason! I’ve created a Google Doc to accompany this post with the relevant code in it. NOTE: So, was being throroughly idiotic with embedding the HTML using code and pre. We’re using the Bootstrap CDN because Bootstrap is awesome and instantly makes anything look nice: Let’s make ourselves a simple html page.Ĭreate a page called index.html and pop the following code in it. Right, crack open your favourite editor (mine’s VS Studio, and you can read why here) and pull up your project folder. Step 4: Build a page and spin up a server Apparently this is no longer needed in Node v.5 onwards so you may or may not want to use it. The –save extension will make sure that a reference to the installed package is saved in your package.json file as a dependency for your project. You can find more about that here: įirst off, let’s install the package in our project with: Node runs its own servers per project and there seems to be a number of ways you can spin one up but, as per the tutorial I linked to we’re going to be using the Express package, which provides an application framework. Okay, so first off we’re going to code a simple node project that will display a HTML page. For reference, I used the entry point app.js (in all honesty I’m still really figuring out what the init set up does – I’ll research that more in the future!) This will create your package file that will hold all the information about the packages you’re using in your project so you can easily set it up again in the future. ![]() Now head into your project folder and initiate Node with: Here’s my commands – you can change yours up as you need to:Ĭd c:\wamp64\www\ mkdir nodejs-file-upload I keep everything I work on in my apache I’m sure there is a better approach but that’s another article for another time! □ First off go to your preferred location for web projects. Fire up your favourite command prompt and get tippity-typing. Hit up and grab the required version for your OS. I’ll be posting part 2, which will cover forms and files, tomorrow, so please check back! This is part 1, which will cover the basics of using Node to serve HTML pages. NOTE: As I was writing this it all got a bit… long! So, I decided to split the post down into a number of parts. This is very much to help my understanding as well as providing others with a helpful guide. So, as with my Gulp posts, I’m going to break the process down and expand on it so that we can see how every step slots together. It also covers some fundamentals in that will be handy for future projects. It forms the basis of everything going forward and gave me a good understanding of how I could build my basic web app in Node and get it running to handle the file upload. As always, credit where credit is due, that tutorial is one of the best I’ve found to see Node working in an easy to understand, applied manner. Node seems like a great framework – a way of running Javascript server side to do non cpu intensive tasks like running simple apps or sites, but a lot of the tutorials and examples I was looking at to get started were either too vague or assumed a basic knowledge that I didn’t really have yet. I’ll be honest, I pinged back and forth for a few weeks trying to figure out how to get things working. ![]() I wanted something a little simpler and more lightweight so I looked to Node.js. The actual file upload script I’d written as a PHP app, fairly straightforward but a little bloated for what it does. But all that’s changed and I want to talk you through my first Node.js app – an easy to implement file uploader!Ī little bit of history – one of the projects I’m working on a the moment is going to require a constant uploading of csv files to a server so that they can be batched into a database for use in Microsofts Power BI that’s something I’m going to be talking more about in the future. Node itself is one of those things I’ve never really a) had time to properly learn and b) had a chance to actually implement in a real world project. I’ve talked on here before about using Node’s NPM package manager to get started with Gulp for some lovely workflow simplifications (oh, how I love Gulp!) but that’s all I’ve really been using it for until now. ![]() The snow might not be in perfect conditions and might be mostly artificial, but you can still go skiing near Barcelona in March. Other destinations such as the Roman ruins of Tarragona, the medieval town of Girona and the Penedes wineries are great the whole year around.
